Fulfilling the Prayer of Jesus

Jhn 17:20  “I’m not praying only for them. I’m also praying for those who will believe in me through their message.

Jhn 17:21  I pray that all of these people continue to have unity in the way that you, Father, are in me and I am in you. I pray that they may be united with us so that the world will believe that you have sent me.

Jhn 17:22  I have given them the glory that you gave me. I did this so that they are united in the same way we are.

Jhn 17:23  I am in them, and you are in me. So they are completely united. In this way the world knows that you have sent me and that you have loved them in the same way you have loved me.

Today my wife and I gathered with several believers from different denominations. We gathered at a large cross that was just erected a few weeks ago. Our gathering was centered around our country’s current political environment. There were different pastors praying for our nation and praying for the unity of the Body of Christ. It was pleasing to see and to be apart of.

There was a point in the ceremony where we were encouraged to gather in small groups and pray for our nation.

Our little group was filled with prayer warriors and each prayer was a sweet incense to the Father. I could sense God’s presence and approval of our unity.

Jesus prayed for this unity thousands of years ago. He knew that spirit filled unity would be the only way to make change in the world.

The unity He prayed for was the unity of divine proportions. Unity that is not man made but heavenly influenced. Unity that would shake nations and usher in the fear of the Lord into willing hearts. Through this divine unity, the glory of the Lord would settle on each believer. The same glory which caused Moses’ face to be hard to look upon. The same glory that three disciples saw on the mountain side when Moses and Elijah ministered to Jesus. The same glory that the angels and the saints experience every moment at God’s glorious throne.

Unity brings the glory and the glory shines on the saints who carry it to the world so they can see.

How does this unity become a reality among Christians today?

  1. Accept the Prayer of Christ.
  2. Don’t try to artificially create unity.
  3. Let Holy Spirit lead the charge.
  4. Allow the fear of the Lord be within you.
  5. Simply settle in the unity of the Lord.

Jesus prayed for us thousands of years ago, so that we would come to Him with one heart and one voice. This unity of the saints is the only way the world will see true revival and another great awakening. Every past Great Awakenings took place when the people of God became divinely one. No denominations. No religious dogmas or doctrines. No self-promoting. No desired power or control. Just simple believers working together to bring the Glory of the Lord to the world.
