Joh 8:31 Then Jesus turned to the Jews who had claimed to believe in him. “If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure.
Joh 8:32 Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you.”
Joh 8:33 Surprised, they said, “But we’re descendants of Abraham. We’ve never been slaves to anyone. How can you say, ‘The truth will free you’?”
Joh 8:34 Jesus said, “I tell you most solemnly that anyone who chooses a life of sin is trapped in a dead-end life and is, in fact, a slave.
Joh 8:35 A slave is a transient, who can’t come and go at will. The Son, though, has an established position, the run of the house.
Joh 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you are free through and through.
Joh 8:37 I know you are Abraham’s descendants. But I also know that you are trying to kill me because my message hasn’t yet penetrated your thick skulls.
Joh 8:38 I’m talking about things I have seen while keeping company with the Father, and you just go on doing what you have heard from your father.”
I like keeping things simple when writing about the things of God. Jesus was straight forward and his messages were simple to the listener. Those who don’t listen don’t understand His truths.
Do you believe in absolute truth? I do believe that there is absolute truth and the truth comes from the living God.
Many today believe that there are many truths and they are relevant only to the believer. Jesus made a bold statement to the Jews by stating that His truth was the only truth which could set free those in spiritual bondage.
If we have absolute truths in mathematics ( 2+2=4) and scientific laws ( law of gravity) then why would there not be absolute truth in spiritual laws? ( Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.)
One thing Jesus made clear is that the enemy to truth is sin. Sin blinds us and keeps us in bondage. God’s truth sets us free and gives us new life.
What was Jesus saying about His truth according to this passage?
1. His truth is meant to be lived out. It has to become the absolute in our lives.
2. Once His truth is lived out then freedom is obtained.
3. Truth is not found through religious dogma or man made doctrines.
4. Sin enslaves the sinner and leaves him or her down a road that goes no where.
5. His truth will keep you free.
6. His truth comes from a place or dimension that is not of this world. His truth is not made from our realm but is truly out of this world.
If you want freedom, if you want true happiness then you must live out the truth of Christ. There is no substitute. There is no alternative. Embrace His truth and embrace His freedom.
