Undeserved Love

” Being loved when it feels undeserved.”

Love, a concept and emotional behavior of mankind that has existed for thousands of years. Our ability to love separates us from any other species on the planet. Our love is complex, difficult to figure out at times, and in many cases still a mystery. Even secular idealogies mention the many different types or levels of love. Needless to say, there are so many facets of love which boggle the mind. There is the love between a husband and wife. There is the love of parents for their children and childern to there parents. There is the love for friends and othe family members. Finally, there is the basic love for all of mankind. ( If you have such a thing.)

The Bible mentions many of these types of love. However, there is one type of love which trumps all other types. In the Greek, it is called Agape. This type of love is divine and is the most mysterious and whimiscal love known to man. Paul the apostle wrote about God’s love to the Corinthians.

1Co 13:4  Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud

1Co 13:5  or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.

1Co 13:6  It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.

1Co 13:7  Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

1Co 13:8  Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!

1Co 13:9  Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture!

This passage gives a description of God’s love and on how we should share it with others. In fact, love is useless unless it is given and demostrated to others.

  7. Is not self-seeking
  8. Not easily angered
  9. Keeps no records of wrongs
  10. Will not delight in evil

In a word, God’s love is perfect! Perfect love is hard to understand and leaves the person receiving it dumbfounded by it’s power. God’s love is undeserving. We are wicked, self-righteous, and corrupt people. Yet, God demostrated His love towards us through the power of Jesus Christ. We do not deserve his kindness and patience but he gives it any way. We are undeserving of this selflessness but He gives it any way. We don’t deserve His trust, hope, endurance, and perfect love. Yet, He gives it any way.

This love is more precious than all the wealth in the world. This love changes hearts and renews minds. It transforms the person who we deem as unchangeable. This love is an eternal flame even when we try to walk away from it.

The fact is we do not deserve His love. Our sin, our filthiness seems undeserving of it. Thankfully, our God is the owner and creator of His love. He gives it to us regardless. His hope and desire it that we return His love to Him and to others. We may only understand it in part, but that should never stop us from sharing with the world this Undeserving Love.
