Living a Relevant Christian life

Vanishing Man

“Don’t forget to show hospitality to believers you don’t know. By doing this some believers have shown hospitality to angels without being aware of it.” (Hebrews 13:2, GW)

The night was crisp and the breeze was refreshing as it beat pellets of dust on my face. The city was bustling with activity and adventure. My friends and I wanted to explore every ounce of San Antonio. We were young men serving our country on a near by base. The weekend meant that we had some free time to ourselves without the military’s watchful eye. My friends used a city map, yes a hard copy map back then, to find a local tattoo parlor. They wanted tatoos like all militray men of the day except for yours truly. I wanted nothing to do with an artist’s rendition of Fred Flistone drawn on my shoulder with permeante ink. They actually tried to trick me as we all walked into an office building. It was very clean and presentable at the front. In the back , behind the black curtain ( Why is everything evil in the world takes place behind a black curtain or a darken window?), was were the magic would happen. They were giggling and had huge smirks on their chiseled faces. Once I discovered that my friends pranked me to going into a tatoo establishment. I turned around and left while watching them disappear behind the black curtain. I waited for them  outside on the sidewalk shaking my head.

Outside, I was surrounded by towering buildings and the business of a typical city life. Buses were dropping people off, taxi drivers were picking people up, and strangers were wondering the streets.

I began to pace back and forth waiting for my friends. I started to get this strange feeling. I watched as a city bus was following its routine and dropped off several people near my location. One person was a black man of average height and medium build. He was wearing regular blue jeans , a t-shirt and a light weighted coat. The coat threw me off considering we were in the beginning of autnum in San Antonio which means it was still hot.

I remember hearing the inner voice of God speak to me. It kept encouraging me to help this man and give him all the money I had in my pocket. I was very relutacnt because after the tatoo parlor adventure we were going to an Aracade establishments to play some games. I did not know this stranger and did not know what his reaction would be. He got off the bus and started to walk to the opposite end of the same sidewalk I was standing on. As he turned the corner and got out of my sight; I obeyed the inner voice and started to run after the gentlemen. As I turn the corner, he was about 15 feet in front of me. I called out to him and he stops to turn around. He smiles at me and right before my eyes; he disappears.

I know this may seem crazy and possibly overly imagitive to some. I have learned not to worry about what others think about me. I can only relay what I have seen. I was not imaging anything nor do I have anything to prove by telling this story.  This circumstance does not make me special or unique. I was just a believer in Christ who finally obeyed His direction.

Sometimes we are placed right dabbed in a middle of a miracle situation. Sometimes we are shown the other side of reality that many seek to destroy or disprove. Truth be told this is not my only encounter with angels or disappearing beings.  I have had several before this situation and after. It has taught me to be kind to all people regardless for you never know who you are being kind too. It is easy to ignore God’s inner voice but we simply miss out on the reward of helping or changing someone’s life. It is important to obey and not worry about who may take you as a fool.

QUESTIONS:

  1. Have you had a similar experience?
  2. How do you treat strangers?
  3. Are you afraid to share God’s kindness to others?
  4. Should you share God’s love with others? What does God’s word say?
