John 8:31-39

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you. I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.”

In the passage above, the Jews that Jesus was calling them slaves. They could not fully understand Jesus’ message on freedom. He was declaring that His absolute truth was the only thing which could free them from all unrighteousness.

World today does not realize they are slaves to sin. Sin is a hidden enity which destroys us from within. With all the craziness going on in America today, sin is at the forefront leading the way. The root cause to the chaos is simply sin. Jesus understood this truth and came to free us from Sin’s eternal hold. Sinful people do evil things. Simply put. Sinful people are the ones creating a hostile environment. Without Jesus, there is no freedom. Without Jesus there is no hope for the chaos.

If we want to see drastic change to the current situation, then we will have to do a few things. Below is a list which can help us on our journey of Living Free.

1. God’s word is the only source of truth which can combat the lies from sin.
2. His truth is the only thing that can break the chains of sinfulness.
3. Only the truth can shine light on the darkness of sin and the reality of being slaves to it.
4. Only a relationship with Jesus can permeantely free us from the shackles of slavery to sin. This relationship must be deeply rooted in His truth and in Him.
