Relevant Life

The Third Great Awakening took place during the years of 1855 through 1930. The US during this time went through a Civil war and World War I. During this time, we also saw a mass sending out of missionaries to the unreached world. It is important to note that the Holiness movement was formed during this time. The Power of the Holy Spirit began to operate in the Body of Christ again and miracles were on the rise.

Here is a quote from famed William Seymour who was instrumental in ushering in the Holiness movement again for the Body of Christ.

“In a short time God began to manifest His power and soon the building could not contain the people. Now the meetings continue all day and into the night and the fire is kindling all over the city and surrounding towns. Proud, well-dressed preachers come in to “investigate.” Soon their high looks are replaced with wonder, then conviction comes, and very often you will find them in a short time wallowing on the dirty floor, asking God to forgive them and make them as little children.”

Are we in a place to see a Great Awakening in our life time? Is the Body of Christ ready for it? Has the Church been conditioned to do God’s will during this unprecedented time?

The Phrase “ Great Awakening” is not found in the bible but it is mentioned. Many times the people of God would repent and return to the Lord. When they did great and mighty things would take place. The whole world is affected by repenting people.

Ezra 10:1-2 GW  While Ezra was praying, confessing these sins, crying, and throwing himself down in front of God’s temple, a large crowd of Israelite men, women, and children gathered around him. They also began to cry bitterly.  (2)  Then Shecaniah, son of Jehiel, one of the descendants of Elam, interrupted by saying to Ezra, “We have been unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women who came from the people around us. However, there is still hope for Israel.

Ezra was an instrumental God used to bring an awakening to the people of God during his time. All he did was a few things. First, he prayed to the living God. Second, he confess his sins and the sins of nation. Third, he was mournful for his transgressions before the Lord. Fourth, he threw himself before the mercy of the Lord. Ezra realized that he was not bigger, smarter, greater, or higher than the living God. He humbled himself before the Lord and a miracle took place. The People of Israel joined in with him and began to cry out to the Lord. The next thing you know an awakening took place.

If we will see a Great Awakening during this time, the people of God will need to cry out to Him more than ever. We  will need to set aside of self delusions of our own self importance. Are we desperate enough for him right now? Desperation breeds passion for His great influence in our lives.

I believe we could see a great move of God but believe we are in a short window of opportunity. What should we do to see this possible Awakening take place?

1. Repent to the Lord with deep mourning and regret

2. Pray fervent prayers day and night and night and day.

3. Release our self-indulgences and seek His Kingdom first.

4. Be the Church to the world and be the instrument of His grace.

5. Keep the Harvest by being a true Disciple who disciples the new believers.

Are ready? Are you willing to allow the living God use you for his glory? Be ready for something fresh is coming!
