Colossians 3:2 GW Keep your mind on things above, not on worldly things.
It is hard to keep the focus on the things of God when the world around us keeps pulling us into it’s daily operations. I believe the first century Christians had the same problem. They probably had it at a greater degree as well. They did not have the conveniences of the today and life was hard. Paul the apostle, still wrote to the church of Colossi and gave them a powerful reminder. “ No matter what life is throwing at you, keep your mind on the things of God.” Paul was not only saying for us to seek for heavenly things but to constantly think like heaven. Even while we are on this planet; godly things should be at the forefront of our thoughts and actions. Easier said than done right?
Paul was not telling us to forget about our daily life; he was stating that our interactions with daily life must come through our understanding and knowledge of godly truth. So how can we live life through a heavenly mind?
Colossians chapter 3 actually gives us some pointers on how to think like heaven.
1. Put to death worldly thoughts. ( sexual perversion, lust, and greed)
2. Get rid of anger and hostilities towards each other. ( Live in harmony with each other)
3. Don’t lie to each other.
4. Be the new creation that Christ as made you to be.
5. Be empathic, humbled and show kindness to everyone around you.
6. Live in God’s peace and live life gratitude.
7. Follow God’s word and allow it to become the wisdom of your life.
8. Let everything you say be done through Christ’s influence in your life.
9. Above all love through God’s love ( Agape)
Living our life through Christ is easy when Christ is at the center. It is also rewarding. Living a life that is filled with love and showing kindness to others is truly the best life to live and keeps us focused on the things of God.
