The officials didn\’t know where I had gone or what I had done. I hadn\’t yet told the Jews, the priests, the leaders, the other officials, or any of the rest who would be doing the work. Then I told them, \”You see the trouble we\’re in. Jerusalem is in ruins, and its gates are burned down. Let\’s rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be insulted.\” Then I told them that my God had been guiding me and what the king had told me. They replied, \”Let\’s begin to rebuild.\” So they encouraged one another to begin this God-pleasing work. When Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite servant, and Geshem the Arab heard about this, they made fun of us and ridiculed us. They asked, \”What are you doing? Are you going to rebel against the king?\” \”The God of heaven will give us success,\” I answered them. \”We, his servants, are going to rebuild. You have no property or claim or historic right in Jerusalem.\”
(Nehemiah 2:16-20 GW)
Nehemiah was a normal and average believer in God. He worked in the King’s palace. He was an average worker who had the passion to see the city of God restored to its former glory. There was nothing special about Nehemiah. He did not have supernatural strength bestowed upon him like Samson. He was not prophesied about 300 years earlier like Josiah. He did not have a prophet choose him out of a family line up to be the next King like David. What Nehemiah did have was passion and a desire to see his current environment changed. What about you? Do you allow the Lord to work fully through you at your place of work? Do you have a job or does the job have you? Do you believe that the Lord can do supernatural things at your current place of work? Let’s line out some thoughts about Nehemiah.
Thoughts about Nehemiah:
1. He had a passion for the restoration process for Jerusalem.
2. He had wisdom on where to start the restoration process. He started with the fallen walls. A city unprotected will cease being a city and become a place of ruins.
3. He had wisdom on how to get the walls rebuilt quickly.( It was completed within 52 days) He would have work crews occupy and settle in at different sections of the wall. Where the people lived is where they would rebuild their portion of the wall.
4. He had leadership abilities to get the job done. He directed each crew to rebuild the sections of the wall and held them accountable to the rebuilding process. He quickly addressed those who would challenge his leadership as well. He had leadership courage which overcame each test.
5. He had great administrative skills which organized the whole event.
6. His actions of rebuilding the walls sparked a spiritual revival among the inhabitants of the land. He worked with Ezra the priest to ensure the revival did not dissipate. Nehemiah understood his place and backed away into the shadows and allowed Ezra to take the revival to the next level.
7. He led the city of Jerusalem back their former glory days and helped establish a sitting city government.
Remember, Nehemiah was a just a cup bearer who served the King. He understood his divine calling and worked hard to see it fulfilled. No one and I mean no one was going to stand in his way and control his destiny.
What about you? Are you a Nehemiah in the workplace? Regardless of your position and daily tasks, what is God doing through you? Are you allowing others to hinder your destiny?

If you remember anything from this blog post; remember this. Nehemiah was a simple man with a simple life. There was nothing unique about him according to the world’s standards but God used him mightily. The same goes for you and I. We might just be average people but God says we are above average. Believe in yourself and allow Holy Spirit to use you at your workplace. Revival will not come to the church or church buildings. It is going to come through normal places where life takes place the most. The Workplace.
