Psalm 42:7-8 MKJV
(7) Deep calls to deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; all Your waves and Your billows have gone over me.
(8) Jehovah will command His loving-kindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me, my prayer to the God of my life.
Hebrews 4:14-16 MKJV
(14) Since then we have a great High Priest who has passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
(15) For we do not have a high priest who cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted just as we are, yet without sin.
(16) Therefore let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
I enjoy hiking and being out in nature. God’s creation has always fascinated me and I like being out in it for at least a couple times of the week. There is one hiking trail that I take often which leads me from the top of a Dam down to the base. During certain times of the week, the dam releases water into the river. This causes the base of the Dam to pour out gallons upon gallons of water which rapidly flows down the river and crashes across the large rocks. The waves crash against the rocks and wipe away any debris. As I stand there gazing at the water. I become engulfed in the noise of the waves and my mind races as I am no longer on planet earth. I contemplate on how wonderful God’s mercy and grace is. I think about how many times I have taken advantage of it and how many times God has shown it to me anyway..
What is the mercy of the Lord?
Mercy means compassion or forgiveness which is shown towards someone while the one who is showing mercy has the power to do otherwise.
The Greek word for mercy that is used in Hebrews 4 is “Eleos” which means divine compassion. The Hebrew word for mercy is “ Chesed” which means kindness giving from the divine. “Chesed” shows how mercy is dependent upon two parties. The giver and the receiver. It shows how the covenant between God and Israel was demonstrated through God’s lovingkindness or his MERCY. The Analogy of the waves rushing over the rocks shows the depth and the power of God’s mercy for those He has a covenant with. The waves of mercy wipe away the dirt and grime and keep it that way only if we stay submerged within it. God’s mercy never runs out but should never be taken advantage of. It is because we are in a covenant with the Lord; we have become empowered to come to His throne of grace to obtain his waves upon waves of mercy. God is obliged to show his mercy to us each and every time we come before him. It is important to note that this covenant is conditional. If we are lovers of Christ then His mercy never fails. If we are bound to the life of sin then mercy could still be shown or lifted. Understand that mercy shown is dependent upon the only One who can show it. God has full control over his “ Chesed”
Romans 9:15-16 MKJV
(15) For He said to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”
(16) So then it is not of the one willing, nor of the one running, but of God, the One showing mercy.
So what can we learn from this truth.
1. God’s mercy is infinite.
2. God shows mercy to who he shows mercy too.
3. Mercy only comes between two people who are in a covenant.
4. Mercy demonstrates his lovingkindness to us all.
5. His waves of mercy keeps us pure if we stay submerged within it.
Receive his mercy today.
