An atheist is a person who disbelieves or lacks faith in the existence of a God or gods. It is the belief of no belief. I have talked and debated several atheist in my life. Many times we walked away still liking each other but neither person changing their beliefs.

You will never see an atheist doing godly things or following God’s word. In fact, they don’t believe that God’s word is divine at all. Do you think that there are atheist in the church? Now I am being facetious. If believers are not following God’s word are they Christians or Atheist?

In my opinion, if we are not following Jesus’ commandments to the church then we are not followers but truly Atheists. What does it take to be an Atheist in a local church.

Atheist in the church characteristics:

1. Doesn’t Love God and doesn’t love others.

a. Luke 10:25-28 GW  Then an expert in Moses’ Teachings stood up to test Jesus. He asked, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”  (26)  Jesus answered him, “What is written in Moses’ Teachings? What do you read there?”  (27)  He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind.’ And ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’”  (28)  Jesus told him, “You’re right! Do this, and life will be yours.”

b. Jesus told the Pharisees many times that if we truly love God then we would follow all his commandments. When we love God; His characteristics simply spew out of our lives. Have you ever met some “ Christians” where it was hard to tell where the Love of Jesus spewed out of . Loving God means having a relationship with Him and truly worshipping Him in Spirit. When Christians truly love God then that love is passed over to others.

2.  Doesn’t share the faith with others.

a. Matthew 28:19-20 GW  So wherever you go, make disciples of all nations: Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.  (20)  Teach them to do everything I have commanded you. “And remember that I am always with you until the end of time.”

b. Jesus commissioned the Apostles to go into all the world and make disciples of the truth. The apostles were to teach the new disciples on how to make disciples themselves. This process has been around for centuries. Why do most “ Christians” never live out their faith or even share their faith with others? The answer is simple. Atheists don’t share a faith they fully don’t believe in.  79.5% of the American population claims to be Christian or followers of Christ. This means 280 million Americans out of 350 Million label themselves as “ Christian” If all of the 280 million “ Christians” truly followed Matthew 28:19-20 would there be corruption in our country? Would there be poverty? Would there be divisions and racism? Would there be liberals? Sorry had to throw that in there. I believe you get the point.

3. Doesn’t live life by the Spirit of God.

  a. Galatians 5:18-24 GW  If your spiritual nature is your guide, you are not subject to Moses’ laws.  (19)  Now, the effects of the corrupt nature are obvious: illicit sex, perversion, promiscuity,  (20)  idolatry, drug use, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, angry outbursts, selfish ambition, conflict, factions,  (21)  envy, drunkenness, wild partying, and similar things. I’ve told you in the past and I’m telling you again that people who do these kinds of things will not inherit the kingdom of God.  (22)  But the spiritual nature produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  (23)  gentleness, and self-control. There are no laws against things like that.  (24)  Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their corrupt nature along with its passions and desires.

b. Being an Atheist in a local church is simple to discover. In the church today, “ Christians” are bound to perversion and promiscuity. They hate others and are quick to judge. You see these people living a selfish life and acting just like the world does.

I believe it is fair to say that the majority of self proclaimed “Christians” in our churches today are not Christians but Atheist. The question to all those reading this article. Which one are you?
