Sexual Sins

“Stay away from sexual sins. Other sins that people commit don’t affect their bodies the same way sexual sins do. People who sin sexually sin against their own bodies. Don’t you know that your body is a temple that belongs to the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit, whom you received from God, lives in you. You don’t belong to yourselves. You were bought for a price. So bring glory to God in the way you use your body.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:18-20‬ ‭GW‬‬

The Bible is clear about the differences of sins and the sin nature of mankind. Sexual sins are different because they affect the whole body. These sins affect the wholeness of a person.

Paul the apostle was talking about sexual sins to the Corinthians because the church was allowing some crazy things to happen. One church member was sleeping with his mother in law. Others were still parading and participating at the Roman bath houses. It was rapid all over the place and the church of Corinth was in the center of it.

Porn falls under this category as well. It actually affects your mind and brain chemistry. Some research shows that it has a similar affect as a person addicted to drugs. Unfortunately, I have seen first hand how addicting it can be.

Porn leaves the user feeling ashamed and empty. The high it gives is never fulfilling and the user seeks for more. All sexual sins are this way. The initial sensation is a pleasurable high until there is a release. The world would have us believe that it is normal human cravings and we should not fight them. The Bible is clear that these types of sins are anything but normal. God intended for sexual relations to be between a married man and woman. It was meant for pleasure, unity, procreation, honoring of one another , expressing of love and so much more. The enemy understands its value and has tried to corrupt it for years.

So how can you find freedom from all sexual sins?

1. Run away from opportunities.

I think of Joseph in The book of Genesis who ran away from Potiphar’s wife when she was trying to seduce him. Simply run away don’t put yourself in circumstances or situations which could lead to a fall.

2. Share your feelings with the right person.

The Bible is clear that confession of sins to each other brings deliverance. Find someone you can trust and who will not judge you but love you. You both can pray for each and help each other through the tough times. For me, I tell my wife everything and she is great at keeping me in check and I help to keep her in check.

3. Stay close to Jesus

I know this sounds cliche but in order to be more like someone you have to stay connected with them. The Holy Spirit is our champion to help us overcome sin. However, we have to stay in his presence. We have to stay in prayer and in reading his Word. When we are disconnected from the Vine, Jesus, then the enemy has free reign to bombard us with all types of temptations.

4. Don’t let shame keep you beat down.

Sexual sins leave a stink of shame and regret. The enemy wants to keep you beat down and at a distance from Jesus. Jesus died on the cross for all sins regardless of magnitude and depth. His forgiveness is unending.

“O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, because with the LORD there is mercy and with him there is unlimited forgiveness.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭130:7‬ ‭GW‬‬

Each day is a new day. If you fail one day. Walk in his forgiveness and be set free for the next day. Take each day a day at a time. God loves you and wants you set free from all bondage. The world will hover your sins over your head and unfortunately some Christians but the only person you have to answer to is Jesus. You can be set free today.
