I Peter 2:24 who “Himself carried up in His body our sins” onto the tree; that dying to sins, we might live to righteousness, of whom “by His wound you were healed.”
Christ’s sacrifice on the cross became the healing staff for all to look to for healing. ( Remember the healing staff of Moses? )
Numbers 21:4-9 And they pulled up stakes from Mount Hor by the way to the Sea of Reeds, to go around the land of Edom. And the soul of the people became impatient because of the way. (5) And the people spoke against God, and against Moses, Why have you brought us out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul hates this light bread. (6) And Jehovah sent fiery serpents among the people; and they bit the people, and many people of Israel died. (7) And the people came in to Moses and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against Jehovah, and against you. Pray to Jehovah, and He shall turn the serpent away from us. And Moses prayed on behalf of the people. (8) And Jehovah spoke to Moses, Make yourself a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that when anyone is bitten, when he sees it, he shall live. (9) And Moses made a serpent of bronze and put it on a pole; and it happened, if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked to the bronze serpent, he lived.
The pole with serpent on it was an analogy of Jesus and what he would do for his followers. When the brazen serpent was placed on the pole; it did something amazing. When the people of Israel looked upon it; they were immediately healed from the snake bites. The Brazen Serpent brought healing and more importantly it brought life.
If Jesus is the analogy of this Brazen serpent, then look at what his sacrifice has done for us. He brings life to all who look upon Him or who call on Him as Lord. Famous Evangelist Charles Spurgeon had this to say about the topic. “ Allow me, then, dear friends, to describe first, the people in the wilderness—the representatives of men who are sinners. Let me describe next, the brazen serpent—the type of Jesus Christ crucified. Let me then note what was to be done with the brazen serpent—it was to be lifted up; and so was Christ to be lifted up. And then let us notice what was to be done by the people who were bitten—they were to look at the serpent; and so sinners must believe in Christ.”
If we are to be delivered from the greatest sickness to mankind (SIN), then we need to only look upon our Lord. He is the one who has died for us and forgives us of our sinful nature. However, some churches just stop here. They see Jesus as only the Savior from sin, but He is so much more. He is our healer, our deliverer, our miracle worker, our friend, and so much more. Jesus died for all of our sins and the for the by products of sin. When sin entered the world, death entered the world. When sin came it brought sickness and diseases. Jesus has healed us from the complete bite from the fiery serpent. We simply have to look upon Him. In His complete presence, we find deliverance from sin and sickness.
There is a different side of Christ that we should look to. That side is the Healing Jesus side. Look to him for your healing and life today.
