Psa 139:1-24 GW For the choir director; a psalm by David. O LORD, you have examined me, and you know me. (2) You alone know when I sit down and when I get up. You read my thoughts from far away. (3) You watch me when I travel and when I rest. You are familiar with all my ways. (4) Even before there is a single word on my tongue, you know all about it, LORD. (5) You are all around me-in front of me and in back of me. You lay your hand on me. (6) Such knowledge is beyond my grasp. It is so high I cannot reach it. (7) Where can I go to get away from your Spirit? Where can I run to get away from you? (8) If I go up to heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in hell, you are there. (9) If I climb upward on the rays of the morning sun or land on the most distant shore of the sea where the sun sets, (10) even there your hand would guide me and your right hand would hold on to me. (11) If I say, \”Let the darkness hide me and let the light around me turn into night,\” (12) even the darkness is not too dark for you. Night is as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you. (13) You alone created my inner being. You knitted me together inside my mother. (14) I will give thanks to you because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made. Your works are miraculous, and my soul is fully aware of this. (15) My bones were not hidden from you when I was being made in secret, when I was being skillfully woven in an underground workshop. (16) Your eyes saw me when I was only a fetus. Every day of my life was recorded in your book before one of them had taken place. (17) How precious are your thoughts concerning me, O God! How vast in number they are! (18) If I try to count them, there would be more of them than there are grains of sand. When I wake up, I am still with you. (19) I wish that you would kill wicked people, O God, and that bloodthirsty people would leave me alone. (20) They say wicked things about you. Your enemies misuse your name. (21) Shouldn\’t I hate those who hate you, O LORD? Shouldn\’t I be disgusted with those who attack you? (22) I hate them with all my heart. They have become my enemies. (23) Examine me, O God, and know my mind. Test me, and know my thoughts. (24) See whether I am on an evil path. Then lead me on the everlasting path.
God Knows everything about you and I. Scripture says He sees you and I when we are at home. Our homes are our most intimate place on the planet. Most people don\’t see us in our natural habitat and never fully see our true selves. However, God does. He knows and sees who we really are.
Nobody can look into our skulls and see or hear our thoughts. However, God can. He hears and sees all our thoughts. We can\’t hide them from Him. Thoughts in themselves are not sinful unless they enter the realm of lust or greed. Nonetheless, our God knows all.
The reality is that there is nowhere we can hide from the living God. God is everywhere. He is the before and the after. He is the first and the last. He is not bound to time but time is bound to Him. He lives outside the realm of time and space. He lives outside of the realm of eternity. God is not an eternal being. Eternity is a reflection of his natural state. Therefore, he knows all and is all.
Verse 16 describes something amazing. For those who agree with abortion should read this one verse. God knew us while we were a simple fetus in our mother\’s womb. He started his first chapter in our our personal book at conception. Our lives are recorded on the pages of this godly book. God does not need the book for his memory; the book is for our benefit.
Jesus told the disciples to be happy that our names are even written in one His books for us.
Luk 10:20 However, don\’t be happy that evil spirits obey you. Be happy that your names are written in heaven. ![]()
Now there are several books that scripture talks about. There are two very important ones. The book of the living or remembrance which is mentioned in Psalm 139 and the book of Life which records the names of those that have repented and turned to Jesus. We are discussing the Book of the Living. In this book, our lives are displayed on the many pages. The chapters were already written by the Living God and as we live out our lives the record of these dealings are recorded and compared to the preconceived thoughts. Are we living up to what God has called us to be? Are we walking in our Father\’s footsteps? What if what you are doing now for God is not what God has ordained you to be? How can we know the chapters already written by God\’s loving hand.
We can live out our lives by what God has already written about us. Do you know the secret? Do you know how to live each chapter of your life accordingly? It is so simple. Have a relationship with God. Let your desires become his desires. Follow Him with wreckless abandon and never look back. That is it. If you do that then each chapter written about you will come true. It is that simple. We miss God and his purpose for our lives when we are not in his presence. Prayer is our life line and key to obtaining the words about us. Prayer with listening intently is very vital in our walk with the Lord. He is like a loving Father who desires to read this bedtime book to his children. You would be amazed about the chapters which are yet to come for your life. If you are still breathing then the last chapter has not happen yet. Get close with the Lord and know what he knows about you.
In verse 23 of Psalm 139 is states (Psa 139:23) Examine me, O God, and know my mind. Test me, and know my thoughts.
In this verse, the writter is turning over his most sacred piece of his life to the Living God. He is surrendering his mind and thoughts over to His God. This is the most intimate part of our being and once our thoughts are fused with our God\’s; then the true adventure can start!!! The chapters of our lives can truly be fullfilled.
